I know this sounds simple.... fashion is about the clothing and portraiture is about the character of the subject. But, when I look at my images I often struggle to find the line between the two.

If I'm photographing a model in a specific outfit at a specific location and she turns and connects with the camera, does the image become a portrait the person is suddenly as important as the clothing?



If I'm photographing a model and I crop in on her hair, makeup and expression is it no longer fashion because the fashion in hardly visible?


It's sad, but I've got new work to post and I'm actually stalled because I cannot figure out how to categorize.
